Healthy Step’s Curriculum
Children’s joy and happiness are a big part of their learning. At Healthy Steps, we encourage them to have fun as a part of their education, with child-led activities which are adapted to their abilities and interests.
We use the Pre Birth to Three & Curriculum for Excellence as part of our nursery curriculum, all of our children are encouraged to learn through play and with kindness, prompting them to use their own curiosity and problem-solving skills to achieve goals and expand their learning.
Curriculum for Excellence places learners at the heart of education. At its centre are four fundamental capacities. These capacities reflect and recognise the lifelong nature of education and learning. The Curriculum for Excellence aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they will need if they are to flourish in life, learning and work, now and in the future, and to appreciate their place in the world. At Healthy Steps we believe our innovative approach gives children a bright and positive start in life and incorporates these two curriculums perfectly for all our little ones.
Our Programs
Baby Berries (0-2 Years)
Our babies program offers a nurturing and personalised environment for your child. With a cosy, warm room designed exclusively for just six babies, we ensure each child receives individualised care and attention. Our program embraces heuristic play and sensory exploration, fostering curiosity and development in a safe and engaging setting.
Cheeky Cherries (2-3 years)
Our 2-3s program allows them to thrive in our beautiful Reggio Emilia-inspired classroom! Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, our space is filled with natural resources to ignite young imaginations. Through sensory and heuristic play, we encourage hands-on exploration and learning in a vibrant and engaging environment.
Sunny Strawberries (3-4 years)
Our 3-4s program is rich with natural resources that provoke inquiry and discovery inviting children to be competent, curious individuals. With a Reggio-inspired approach, we foster independence and emphasis child-led learning, empowering each child to thrive and discover at their own pace. With free-flow access to our expansive outdoor classroom, children dive into nature and hands-on exploration.
Sunny Strawberries Pre-School (4-5 years)
Our pre-school program offers our young learners early years literacy, numeracy, and digital technology skills, laying a strong foundation for future academic success. Our educators act as facilitators, guiding children's learning experiences and continuously monitoring their progress to ensure personalised growth and development.
At Healthy Steps, traditional learning meets 21st century learning, where we instil important life skills like table manners and proper utensil use, while encouraging routines and utilising classic resources like pencils, paper, and books. Alongside this, we embrace modern learning by teaching children how to use iPads, exploring digital resources like interactive globes, and even programming robots, ensuring a well-rounded and future-ready educational experience.
Zen Zone (Sensory room)
Our sensory room, lovingly dubbed the ‘Zen Zone’, provides a tranquil sanctuary where children can engage in immersive sensory experiences. This inviting space offers a range of sensory activities such as soothing lighting, tactile materials, calming sounds and gentle movement.
Whether children are seeking quiet reflection, sensory exploration or emotional support, the Zen Zone offers a supportive environment where children can thrive and flourish.
Outdoor Classroom
Our nursery boasts an expansive outdoor learning environment that seamlessly flows from our playrooms, allowing for free flow exploration between indoors and outdoors and ground safety surface ensures safe play.
From the ‘Mud Cafe’ for sensory rich play, to the ‘Fire Pit’ to promote socialising and safety lessons. Our outdoor classroom sparks curiosity and creativity.
Our covered rain room ensures play is uninterrupted during increment weather and a separate baby garden is a haven of comfort and safety, featuring soft artificial grass perfect for tiny toes to explore.
